Medios Indígenas is a research project developed by the University of Barcelona focused on the ethnographic study of Indigenous and Afro-descendant media in Latin America.

Its mission is to analyze how these communities use tools such as radio, video, social media, and the press to articulate their identity, political and cultural activism, as well as to keep their languages and traditions alive.

The target audience includes anthropologists, academics, Indigenous communicators, and anyone interested in communication studies, culture, and the rights of Indigenous peoples. The project’s values revolve around plurality, the decolonization of media discourse, and the empowerment of Indigenous communities.

The design of the “Medios Indígenas” website conveys an academic and collaborative character: it is not intended to be merely a magazine, but rather a participatory platform where narratives, case studies, and transmedia resources coexist.

Associated studies describe an architecture designed to reflect the multivocality and heterogeneity of Indigenous experiences.

From a visual perspective, according to ethnographic analyses, the website opts for a clear and organized layout: different sections are structured for Indigenous communicators, academics, and the general public, promoting collaboration.

This approach reflects the project’s intention to be inclusive, to showcase ideological diversity (resistance, decolonization, revitalization), and to facilitate access to multiple formats (texts, audiovisuals) in order to enrich the experience.
